WHO?

SHiNE (Seeking Harmony in Neighborhoods Everyday).

SHiNE is a nonprofit organization that uses outlets like art, music, technology and sports to engage youth on issues that they care about. SHiNEs mission is to empower young people to promote respect for diversity and end youth violence.

WHY?

Thematically, The Crucible is synergistic with SHiNEs mission and message of creating a non-judgmental society by respecting individuality and promoting peace.

WHAT?

Each Wednesday SHiNE will facilitate a 30-minute interactive workshop with high school students attending the matinee performances, entitled:

The Power of the Individual: How Do You SHiNE?

This workshop will explore ways that students either use or relegate their own power to that of the group, and how those perceived as outsiders are labeled and treated.  Very often in adolescence, conformity rules, leaving those who dont conform to be targets of bullying and harassment.  This workshop will help students to recognize the negative results that can occur when one pushes aside their individuality and personal beliefs in order to fit in with the more popular group, and to recognize the relevance of The Crucible to their own lives.

WHERE?

Workshops will take place each Wednesday at the Virginia Theater (same theater as The Crucible performances), 245 W. 52nd Street, New York, NY (52nd & Broadway).

**Evening workshops are available. Please contact Meridith Berger (contact info below) with inquiries.**
